UPDATE On Roxana's Family

I just sent the Family $100 for food for (what I thought was for ) a month, but it is $150. So I am $50 short. Here is an email I just received explaining what is needed most. If you want to help let me know. See Below for what I hope to raise to help this family and the prices of each item.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Mary Ann,

Thank you so much for wanting to help them.

Roxana and her family need so much but their greatest need right now is food.

Then it would be clothing for Roxana, she wears traditional clothing and she really doesn't have much to wear and what she does is not in very good shape.

They also need another bed for three more people to sleep in. It would greatly improve their health to get off the floor.

It is very difficult for the father to work catching fish in the lake as the lake has been polluted by cynobacteria and nobody is eating the fish that is caught there.

Thank you so much for wanting to help them, it will make a huge difference to their lives.

If you would like to send the money through paypal you can go to our website. Here is the connection.http://www.mayanfamilies.org/DonateNow or you can send a check to

Mayan Families.

P.o. Box 52,

Claremont NC 28610

Once again, thank you, this family will be so appreciative.

Warmest regards,

Sharon

----------------------------------------------

I looked up on the Mayan Family Website for these prices but here is what I hope to raise enough money for.

~ Another $50 for Food
~ $170 for a bed that 3 people will sleep in.
~ $100 for traditional  Mayan Clothing for Roxana
~ $50 for a water filter since their water comes from the lake.

So that is a total of  $370.00 .

We have given all that we can other then my 20% off of hat sales and the 100% sales that come off of my Halloween Fairy Tutu Set Costume, that I hope to sell. Please say a prayer that I have good business in the next week or so.

If you know of a way to help me raise this money please let me know or if you would like to donate to Roxana and her family e-mail me and I will let you know how. karlton5@juno.com

Prayer Request

This is an e-mail that I woke up to this morning. (Below Pictures)

Please pray for Roxana and her family. Make sure you stop by the Mayan Families website that is posted below to read more about the flooding and to  view all the pictures of the slide shows. I will be donating 100% of the sales to the Fairy Princess Costume I have posted on Cutie Patutuz http://cutiepatutu.blogspot.com/  and I will also be giving 20% of my hat sales for this month. We will be sending in money now for food. But, I would like to raise enough to get them what they need the  food, blankets, shoes, and clothing. If you would like to help let me know karlton5@juno.com.

Roxana's father is missing a foot and is crippled. Roxana sends us pictures she draws and writes us letters telling us about her father all the time. There are 9 children of which 4 of them are still at home.

Dear Karlton and Mary Ann,

I am writing with an update of your sponsored student, Roxana

As you are probably aware, Guatemala has been suffering a series of disasters.

The recent flooding and mudslides have caused a lot of hardship.

Unfortunately, Roxana and her family were badly affected.

They live in a valley below San Jorge and all the mud and rivers ran into the area where they were living.

They had to evacuate for several days.

The family is very poor even at the best of times. The father cannot work and the mother makes beaded jewelry that she sells for $3 US per week.

The family does not have enough to eat normally and now it is even worse.

There are very few tourists now and there are no sales for the mother.

The mother is very worried about not having enough to eat for the children.

I am sorry that this is not a happier update.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me,

Warmest regards,

Sharon

I'm So Excited!

I want you all to meet my New Sponsor Amy Ruston. Amy is a fellow adoptive Mama to another precious Guatemalan Beauty! Like us and a lot of Adoptive Families their family was left with a lot of Adoption debt. This Spring Amy launched her Company Beautiful Brown Eyed Girl Boutique, to help pay that debt. She hand makes boutique quality children clothing. She does make boys clothing too, so make sure you stop by her blog and check out all her adorable clothing! Amy also donates 10% of her earnings to Mayan Families. This group is especially close to my heart. We sponsor a  Mayan Little girl so that she can go to school. We also donate to a lot of needs that they have. So I am stoked about working with Amy! I am looking forward to working with her in the very near future too so stay tuned....................

But for now stop by her blog here

Cross Country

I am finally getting around to blogging about the boys 1st Cross Country Race from last Tuesday. Today they have their 2nd meet, but it is away. I usually do not go to the away games, since they have to ride the bus.

The first picture is of the boys lining up for the horn to blow.

This was Jordan at the beginning of the race. He was about 4th for our team, where he remained. Jordan ended up placing 13th over all.. He ended up with a time of 22:50, for a 3.1 mile race. (their races are always a 5K ... 3.1 miles)Way to go Jordan!!! He has improved his time by a lot from last yr.

Here comes Josiah across the finish line. This was his first race with the team. Josiah is a 12 yr old (7th grade) running with 9th-12th graders.
He placed 7th for our team and 23rd over all. His time was 28:06. Great job Josiah! His coach said he is already improving a lot so I can't wait to see how improves through the year!

Wish them Luck for tonight's race they are going to need it! We were all sick over the weekend and I am afraid it is going to take a toll on them.

I Did It!!!!

I just finished running my goal of 70 miles in the last 4 weeks. I barely didn't make it last month, but was bound and determined I would this month! It was pretty tough in this heat the last week. We have been in the high 90's. I had a couple of asthma attacks and ended up sick with a stomach ache yesterday, while running. But I made it! Now I am upping my mileage for the next 4 weeks.

I have been running 17.5 miles a week. I give myself an A+  for finally making my goal!

Now I will be getting ready for another 5k next month. The Boys Cross Country Team is having a fundraiser and is inviting the community to run with them in one of their races. Can't wait!!! Even though my boys will blow me out of the water!
