The NC Mountains - Day 1

Friday morning we took the kids out of school early to head to the mountains. It took us about 3 1/2 hours to get to Waynesville, NC. This picture was taken as we were starting to get close to the mountains. I took this picture because it was poring yellow leaves, it was really pretty. This picture just makes it look like I just have a dirty windshield (probably because I did have a dirty windshield ;0).

Once we made it to the place where we were staying, we decided to head out and find an apple orchard to pick some fresh mountain apples, since we were early.

Here are some pictures from our scenic drive to the apple orchard.

We finally found it but, they had picked all the apples and boxed them to sale..... soooooo we headed back.......

to check out our little farm.

The girls were in awe of the Koi fish and the Chickens.

Then it was picture time... I set up the tri-pod to take some family pictures. This was the only one that turned out. The other 20 pictures turned out like............

this one..... (Karlton was not smiling and the wind was blowing our hair.)

Then Karlton and I took some pictures together... Again Karlton was not smiling. He finally did in some pictures but, I am saving those for another day.

We took turns having our pictures made with the kids....

Then it was time to head back to the house. We made a fire that night and cooked hot dogs and smores.

It was windy and really cold so me and the girls headed in while the boys stayed out to tell stories. One by one the boys came in.... Josiah was the last boy to stay out with Karlton until they heard a bunch of howling on the hill behind them. Then Josiah came bolting into the house shaking with eyes as big as saucers. He told me there were wolves out side. I told him there were no wolves, but there were coyotes. Come to find out there are wolves around there but not many. We were told the Coyotes are plentiful!

So this is pretty much how the first day of our little getaway went.................
